Introduction
A shipping container holds more than mere cargo, it carries thousands of stories. Organised by the Hong Kong Maritime and Port Development Board (HKMPDB), in partnership with the Hong Kong Maritime Museum (HKMM), and supported by Orient Overseas Container Line Limited (OOCL) and Modern Terminals Limited (MTL), “Project Art Container” officially launches today with the debut of the “One Container, One Story” Drawing Competition. The competition invites students and members of the public in Hong Kong to portray the city through creative expression, showcasing through art the unique characters of Hong Kong as an international port city.

Objective
Under the theme “Hong Kong Sailing to the World”, the competition encourages participants to reinterpret the city’s landscape and maritime stories from diverse perspectives. Winning entries will have the opportunity to be enlarged and displayed on real 20-foot shipping containers travelling along global maritime routes, bringing Hong Kong’s creativity and culture to audiences around the world, and transforming the containers into moving canvases showcasing the city’s stories.
“Project Art Container” transforms shipping containers into canvases connecting artistic creation with global maritime networks. Through an open call, the winning artworks will be transformed into container art displays on real shipping containers travelling across international maritime routes, extending Hong Kong’s cultural narrative through global circulation.

Theme - Hong Kong Sailing to the World
Participants are invited to portray Hong Kong’s identity as an international port city, drawing from culture, lifestyles, stories and cityscape narratives through their own creative lens. Inspired by the theme “Sailing to the World”, the artworks should reflect the ideas of connection, exchange and movement, while presenting your observations and distinctive interpretation of Hong Kong.
