Course Introduction
The Hong Kong Maritime Museum will organise the “Chinese Export” Art Short Course 2026 from 14 to 17 October 2026, after the 2026 International Symposium on "Chinese Export Art" : Trade in Asian Waters. The short course is designed for individuals with an interest in "Chinese Export Art". It will include visits to major museums and archives in Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR and Guangzhou, offering students and early-career scholars the opportunity to engage closely with relevant collections and to further deepen their understanding of "Chinese Export Art".
Through a combination of expert-led lectures, hands-on artifact study, and immersive field trips, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the historical, artistic, and cultural dimensions of “Chinese Export (China Trade) art”. The course fosters cross-disciplinary learning and international dialogue, aiming to elevate both academic inquiry and public appreciation of this rich artistic tradition.

Participants will undertake field visits to museums, archives and other important cultural institutions in Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR, and Guangzhou, gaining first-hand experience of the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Greater Bay Area.

Participants will have direct access to museum collections and archival materials, enhancing their analytical and curatorial capabilities.

** English and Mandarin are the medium of instruction for this short course, this course will not provide simultaneous interpretation.
*** A certificate issued by HKMM in conjunction with a relevant academic institution will be presented to all participants who have completed the programme with satisfactory performance. A certificate presentation ceremony will be held on the last day of the course.
