Wang Lianming is Associate Professor in the Department of Chinese and History, City University of Hong Kong. He received his Ph.D. in East Asian Art History from Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg. Previously, he held various positions at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (Lecturer, East Asian Studies), Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg (Assistant Professor, Chinese Art History), the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz–Max-Planck-Institut (Art Histories Fellow and Visiting Professor), the University of Cambridge (Global Humanities Visiting Professor of Asian Art and Architecture), and the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (Balzan Junior Fellow for Global Environmental History). Wang received the Hengstberger Prize (2018) and the Academy Prize (2021) from the Heidelberger Akademie der Wissenschaften, as well as an honorable mention for the 2021 ICAS Book Prize (German Language Edition) for his latest volume, Jesuitenerbe in Peking: Sakralbauten und transkulturelle Räume, 1600–1800 (Winter Verlag, 2020). His research interests center on global encounters of art and architecture in early modernity, object and diplomatic gift exchanges, and East Asian maritime exchange.
