Professor ZHAN Zhenpeng received his PhD in Chinese Art History from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and is currently Associate Professor in the Department of History (Zhuhai) at Sun Yat-sen University. His research and teaching focus on art history, material culture and practices of collecting/connoisseurship in late imperial China, with a particular interest in examining the social life of objects within their changing historical contexts. From 2018 to 2019, he served as Research Associate at the Art Museum of CUHK and the Hong Kong Maritime Museum, where he contributed to the curatorial research and catalogues of major exhibitions, including Jewels of Transcendence: Himalayan and Mongolian Treasures and The Dragon and the Eagle: American Traders in China, 1784–1900. In addition to his monograph on carved lacquer and imperial decorative arts in Ming–Qing China, to be published by Zhejiang University Press in 2027, Prof. Zhan also translated Dorothy Ko’s book The Social Life of Inkstones into Chinese. He has published over thirty articles in leading journals such as Late Imperial China, Arts of Asia, and Taida Journal of Art History.
