Professor Fong-fong Chen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at the Academy of Chinese, History, Religion, and Philosophy of Hong Kong Baptist University. She previously taught art history and the history of collecting at Lingnan University and served as an Associate Curator of the University Museum and Art Gallery at the University of Hong Kong. She has also been a Visiting Scholar and JS Lee Memorial Curatorial Fellow affiliated with the University of California, Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive; a MacLean Map Fellow with the MacLean Collection Map Library in Illinois; and a recipient of the Rare Book School Directors’ Scholarship in the United States.

Specialised in Chinese art history, Professor Chen’s research interests centre on representations of women and fashion in China from the eighteenth to the twentieth centuries across mediums, cross-cultural exchanges, and Hong Kong art history. Her recent research projects include “Hong Kong Landscapes and the Arts of the Qing Loyalists,” “When Clothes Mattered in Female Figure Paintings: Wu Youru and the Media Turn in Shanghai (1870s–1920s),” and “Vanished Landscapes: Mapping Hong Kong’s Historic Places of Visual Arts.” Her research projects are supported by the Lord Wilson Heritage Trust, the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, and the Hong Kong Research Grants Council.
