The Giants’ Feast: A Night of Legacy

Hong Kong Maritime Museum Gala 2026

On 30 January 2026, the Hong Kong Maritime Museum successfully hosted The Giants’ Feast: A Night of Legacy, its annual fundraising gala that brought together the maritime, business, and cultural communities for an evening of celebration, connection, and shared purpose.

 

Held across the HKMM Jockey Club Anchor Plaza and the HKMM Special Events Gallery, the Gala welcomed approximately 200 distinguished guests, including government officials, leaders from the shipping and transport sectors, business executives, and devoted supporters of maritime heritage. The evening stood as a powerful testament to the collective commitment to preserving and advancing Hong Kong’s rich maritime legacy.

Celebration at the Anchor Plaza

The evening began with a cocktail reception at the Anchor Plaza, where guests gathered against the stunning backdrop of Victoria Harbour. The Museum was delighted to have its Chairman, Mr. Richard Hext, officially open the evening, setting the tone for a night of celebration and appreciation.

The Museum was deeply honoured to welcome Mr. Vic Yau, JP, Permanent Secretary for Transport and Logistics, who delivered the opening address and officially commenced the Gala Dinner.

 

The evening was further graced by the presence of many distinguished guests, including:

 

  • Captain Lothair Lam, Member of the Legislative Council (Shipping and Transport)

  • Mr. Tung Chee-chen, GBS, SBS, JP, Chairman of the Hong Kong Maritime Museum Trust

  • Mr. Colin Shaftesley, Chairman of the Hong Kong Maritime Museum Gala 2026

  • Ms. Yandy Chan, Principal Assistant Secretary (Culture) 2 of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau

Their presence underscored the strong cross sector support for the Museum’s mission and its future development.

An Evening of Music and Cultural Celebration

To mark this special occasion, guests enjoyed a vibrant programme of live performances throughout the evening. Musical highlights included performances by the Music Children Foundation, who presented the orchestral piece Sailing with Whales by Rossano Galante, as well as the Hong Kong Sea School Marching Band. Live sets by DJ Sharm Alarm further enhancing the festive atmosphere, blending music, culture, and maritime heritage at the Anchor Plaza.

 

During the Gala Dinner, an octet ensemble also performed Cornfield Chase by Hans Zimmer, specially rearranged for the evening by composer Illuminatius Ng, providing a stirring and memorable musical moment.
