About the Event

Sponsored by Swire’s TrustTomorrow initiative, the Hong Kong Maritime Museum (HKMM) offers free admission and a series of family activities on 28 October 2023, in time for the Museum’s exhibition “Plasticised Marine Life”. On the Swire’s Free Family Fun Day, visitors can enjoy a myriad of fun activities from marine science talks, interactive game and information booths and hand painting workshops to a marine creatures quiz game. Educational activities such as docent tours and workshops will also be offered. A series of exquisite souvenirs will be available on that day.

The Free Family Fun Day will celebrate the accomplishments of Swire’s TrustTomorrow initiative over the past three years and raise public awareness about marine conservation.  TrustTomorrow has supported inspirational projects across the areas of Education, Marine Conservation and the Arts to drive lasting, positive change. The initiative also focuses on connecting the dots between different parties to create an even greater impact.

HKMM is delighted to collaborate with multiple NGOs and other parties for the first time in organizing this Free Family Fun Day. Partner organisations include the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD), Archireef, Hong Kong Bird Watching Society (HKBWS), LumiVoce, Ocean Park Conservation Foundation (OPCF), The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and World Wide Fund for Nature Hong Kong (WWF).  They will share marine wildlife and conservation knowledge through games and information booths, talks and interactive workshops. Visit us to discover, explore and learn more about marine wildlife from below highlight activities:

· TNC’s oyster work booth and “Restoring oyster reefs and their ecosystem services” workshop educate the participants about the Hong Kong oyster restoration. The work booth provides a VR game for participants to visit Pak Nai virtually. Participants can also create shell paintings and shell X’mas ornaments. And in the “Restoring oyster reefs and their ecosystem services” workshops, participants can then enjoy an interactive art experience by creating a reef ball using recycled materials. Furthermore, TNC will curate and present a special exhibition “The Oyster Odyssey: Restoring Hong Kong's Lost Treasure” from 10 November 2023 to 31 January 2024 at HKMM. Stay tuned for more information on the upcoming exhibition.

· Archireef’s coral artwork booth enables participants to learn about basic coral ecology and threats, while interacting with coral models and skeleton specimens. An interactive session will be available for participants to create their own coral artwork using 3D printing pens and bring one home as a souvenir. And they will build a big coral reef ecosystem artwork together at the booth.

· HKBWS’s “A migratory adventure story of Roseate Tern” storytelling workshop is about its newly published children's graphics booklet魯魯詩詩歷險記 - 粉紅燕鷗的遷徙故事. This is a story about seabirds’ migration adventure.

The "Plasticised Marine Life” exhibition is also open on the Free Family Fun Day. Using recycled plastic bottles, & dear art group created marine life sculptures of green sea turtle, manta ray, and African penguins to raise public awareness of the serious marine plastic pollution. The exhibition will last until 5 November 2023.
