A sextant is a traditional nautical instrument used to measure the angle between a celestial body and the horizon, helping sailors determine their position at sea. Director & Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Maritime Museum and the Assistant Director of the Marine Department will introduce the history and purpose of the sextant and guide participants step by step in how to use it for celestial navigation. Participants will have the opportunity to assemble their own sextant and, under the guidance of an instructor, learn how to use it for celestial navigation. (A materials fee of HK$100 is payable by each participant.)
