About the Event
To celebrate the International Museum Day, the Hong Kong Maritime Museumand Lighthouse Heritage Research and Connections Project (LHRC, City University of Hong Kong) co-organise “Lighthouse: Paradise beyond the City”, funded by Teaching Development Grant and Special Grant on 8 May and 22 May*.
Inspired by Charles Thirlwell’s spirit, students from different departments of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) have produced various creative works, so as to preserve and promote the almost forgotten history between a Hong Kong-born British Lighthouse Keeper in Hong Kong and the local fisherfolk community. On 8 and 22 May, the exhibition showcases images of historical newspaper, photos, painting drawn by Charles Thirlwell, telling the fascinating stories of the lighthouse keeper’s life and work, as well as his friendship with the local fisherfolks.
The new media works by students from various disciplines of City University of Hong Kong, for instance, the virtual reconstruction of a native Chinese junk, 3D model, audio description will be on display. Students will also provide guided tours of the exhibition.
