Abstract:

The shipping industry has played a crucial role in the development of Hong Kong, impacting the lives of everyone. In this talk, Tim Huxley looks at how Hong Kong’s maritime sector has evolved through good times and bad, looks at some of the personalities who have played a role in making Hong Kong a global maritime centre whilst looking to the future and whether Hong Kong can continue to prosper as a shipping hub.

Speaker’s Bio:

Tim Huxley has spent forty years in the shipping industry, the past thirty-three in Hong Kong. Starting his career as a shipbroker, he went on to be CEO of major Hong Kong shipowner Wah Kwong Maritime Transport Holdings Ltd before establishing Mandarin Shipping, a Hong Kong based shipowner operating a small fleet of container vessels. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers and a former Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Shipowners Association. In addition to being Chairman of Mandarin Shipping, he is a director of a number of other shipping related companies in Hong Kong and Europe.
