About the Event

Christmas is approaching. Have you ever planned any activities for yourself and your family? On Christmas Eve, we have prepared a series of free activities.  No registration is required.  Free-of-charge on a first come-first-serve basis. Come and join us for celebrating Christmas together!

1. Christmas Cartoon Screening 

Time: 10:00 – 12:00

Think back to your own childhood, and chances are some of your fondest memories tied to the season are connected to that one special movie you only watch in December. And if you now have kids of your own, it’s time to get their own traditions started. We have prepared the best animated Christmas movies sure to capture their imagination.

2. Christmas Lunch at Museum Cafe (At your own expense)

Time: 12:00 – 13:00

Christmas is certainly a time to eat, drink and be merry with the family! Our Museum Café’s Special Christmas menu has just been launched! Christmas limited-edition cupcakes, gingerbread man cookies and festive drinks are available at the Museum Café. Come and enjoy a breath-taking view of the bustling urban landscape and Victoria Harbour, feel the festive mood with us!

3. Christmas Talks

Topic: Christmas Trees under The Sea

Speaker: Mr Gomen See, Marine Science Programme Coordinator, Hong Kong Maritime Museum

Have you ever wondered if there are “Christmas Trees” under the sea? If you are Interested to learn more about these mysterious tree-liked creatures, please join this Christmas-themed marine wildlife talk!

4. Christmas Talks

Topic: Christmas Tradition of Sailors

Speaker:  Ms Millie Lai, Associate Curator, Hong Kong Maritime Museum

Language: Cantonese

Christmas is a Western tradition for gathering with families and friends. Nowadays, we may take photos at beautiful Christmas decorations or a chance to satisfy our appetite. Then, is there any interesting activity for sailors who are working hard onboard? In this session, we will share how the crews from different countries celebrate the festival by looking into the old photos.

5.  Christmas Talks

Topic: Christmas At Sea

Time: 14:00-14:30

Speaker: Reverend Kim Kee Lee, Port Chaplain, The Seafarers’ Centre,  The Mariners Hong Kong

Language: Cantonese

A life at sea can be challenging, particularly during the holiday seasons. In this presentation, a brief outline of seafaring and life at sea will be introduced before showing how The Mariners Hong Kong bring some festive spirit and joy to the seafarers – by distributing Christmas gifts to all seafarers who come to Hong Kong. It is a small gesture that can have a huge impact for many seafarers.

*Participate in the Q&A session at any of special Christmas talks, you will receive a set of souvenir pack while stock lasts.

Simulator is open to the public. Event details are as follows:

Location: Ship Bridge Simulator, A Deck, Hong Kong Maritime Museum

The experience allows visitors to steer a variety of ships including container barge, high-speed boat or even the famous historic Star Ferry, and learn the various roles of seafarers in the simulator to experience an immersive and authentic ‘sea journey’ through Hong Kong waters and the Victoria Harbour waterfront!

5 sessions of 30 minutes each. Each session is limited to 12 participants.

Session 1: 13:00-13:30

Session 2: 13:45-14:15

Session 3: 14:30-15:00

Session 4: 15:15-15:45

Session 5: 16:00-16:30

When buy your entry ticket at Front Desk at B Deck, you may collect the simulator ticket if interested.   Free-of-charge on a first come-first-serve basis.
