Internship Opportunities
The Hong Kong Maritime Museum (HKMM) started as a private museum and first opened its doors in 2005. In 2013, the museum moved to its current location at Pier 8, beautifully and centrally situated at and above Hong Kong’s buzzling waterfront. In this city, the HKMM is the largest example of a public/private partnership. Since commencement of museum services, HKMM, being a charity organization, has provided unpaid learning experience to numerous students through internship programmes taking place around the year. Since 2005, the response has continued to be very positive: no fewer than 200 students have provided their talents and time to the museum, with the museum providing experience in return.
In 2019, the Museum has initiated a summer internship programme (SIP) during the summer vacations – annually between June and August. These internships, set up for the Curatorial, Education and Marketing Departments, have been developed to enable students undergoing tertiary education to get some hands-on experience in the museum field.
Application procedure
Students who are interested in this programme should apply individually, though referral from their respective universities is also entertained.
Applicants are required to fill in an internship application form below, complete it fully and request a referee to send a recommendation directly to the Executive Officer who coordinates the programme. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview. The HKMM will take a maximum of 12 students in the SIP per year.
