【「歲月遊蹤」海事攝影展 —— 從黑白相，走到繽紛彩色影像時代Voyage Through Time Exhibition - From Black-and-White Photos to the Vibrant Era of Colourful Images】🌊

「歳月遊蹤」展覽涵蓋 1940 年代至 1970 年代期間，由 Hedda Morrison, Brian Brake 及 Edward Stokes (艾思滔) 在香港拍攝的照片。參觀者將從黑白照片中，目睹戰後香港的荒蕪景象，破舊的船隻與在貧窮中掙扎的人們，勾勒出那段艱難的歷史。參觀者將進入旁邊的繽紛彩色影像，見證港口的繁華與變遷，彷彿隨著時間的推移，與香港共同回顧其發展歷程。⏳

香港海事博物館副館長（策展及教育）麥杰睿表示︰「這是一個難得的機會，在同一展覽中集合了三位備受推崇的攝影師，他們背景不同但互相補足，記錄了戰後香港不同時期的面貌。這些照片準確捕捉港人如何克服戰後的困苦時期，努力不懈地打造一個充滿活力和成功的城市。透過這次展覽，參觀者可以更深入瞭解香港如何復甦以及市民生活的改變。」🚢✨

Voyage Through Time is an exhibition of captivating photographs taken in Hong Kong between the 1940s and 1970s by celebrated photographers Hedda Morrison, Brian Brake and Edward Stokes. Through black-and-white images, visitors can witness the post-war landscapes of Hong Kong, portraying dilapidated boats and people struggling in poverty. Visitors can then gradually move to the vibrant colour photographs that showcase the bustling harbor and its transformation. It is as if participants are journeying through a time tunnel, immersing themselves in the rich history of Hong Kong harbour. ⏳

Jeremy Michell, Deputy Director (Curatorial & Education) at HKMM, states, “It is a unique opportunity to have an exhibition by three different, but complementary and well-respected photographers record different periods of postwar Hong Kong. These photographs beautifully capture how Hong Kong’s people overcame the legacies of a long war to work tirelessly to create an energetic and successful city. Through this exhibition, visitors can gain a deeper understanding of that change and its visual impact on Hong Kong and its citizens.” 🚢✨

【海上航行的明燈The Significance of Lighthouses】

在導航技術🌐尚未成熟的時代，海上航行充滿不確定性。在夜間🌙，視野受限的情況下，船隻觸礁的風險大幅增加。因此，為了確保航行安全，燈塔的建設顯得尤為重要。

燈塔在早期航運貿易中扮演了關鍵角色，它如同海上的明燈💡，為航行者指引方向，維護海上交通的安全。燈塔的主要功能是指示船隻🚢安全進出港口，幫助避免觸礁事故。這些燈塔通常建於面向海洋的岬角、礁石或礁排上，專門用來向駛近的船舶發出警示🚨。

香港作為濱海地域，進出水域的船隻眾多，因此在險要地帶建設燈塔至關重要。橫瀾燈塔是香港現存的戰前⚔️燈塔之一，其建設始於1893年，由港英政府提出，中國海關負責興建，並於1896年正式投入運作，至今仍為南海航行的船隻提供重要指引。橫瀾燈塔配備了先進的信號燈，戰後經過修復，並更換為瑞典製造的菲涅爾透鏡，能見範圍達26海里，自1950年開始使用，並於1989年實現自動化操作。

In the era when navigation technology🌐 was not yet well-developed, sea voyages were full of uncertainties. At night🌙, when the waterways cannot be clearly seen, ships are at risk of hitting reefs. To ensure the safety of navigation, it is essential to build lighthouses.

Lighthouses played a crucial role in shipping and maritime trade in the early days. They were the beacon💡 of maritime navigation and helped maintain the safety of seaborne traffic. The main function of lighthouses was to instruct ships🚢 how to enter and leave a port to avoid accidents on reefs. Therefore, they were mostly built on promontories facing the sea or on reefs and reef shoals to warn 🚨 approaching ships.

Hong Kong is a coastal region with foreign ships frequently sailing there, making the establishment of lighthouses in dangerous areas of paramount importance. The Waglan Lighthouse is one of the few surviving pre-war⚔️ lighthouses in Hong Kong. It was proposed by the Hong Kong British government in 1893 and constructed by the Chinese Customs Department. Officially put into service in 1896, it has been guiding ships in the South China Sea ever since. This catadioptric Fresnel lens, manufactured in Sweden in 1947, had a visibility range of up to 26 nautical miles. It was put into service in 1950 and remained operational until 1989, when the lighthouse became automated.

【🎙️香港海運週2024 – 免費親子同樂日焦點活動：「鯨龜大海：香港海洋動物的健康檢查」講座（廣東話） Hong Kong Maritime Week 2024 Free Family Fun Day Highlighted Activity - “Story of the Ocean Giants: Health Assessment of Aquatic Animals” Talk(Cantonese)】

作為「香港海運週」節目之一，香港海事博物館在2024年11月23日將免費開放予公眾參觀，並有一系列教育活動，其中包括「鯨龜大海：香港海洋動物的健康檢查」講座🎤。除了漁民、航運🚢和港口營運商，海洋動物🐟也是海洋的重要持份股者。我們應該認識、關心，並對海洋動物加以照顧。

香港城市大學海洋動物影像解剖研究組自2014年起引入嶄新的影像解剖技術💻，應用在本地鯨豚擱淺調查📝，其後更於2019年把研究和技術擴展到海龜🐢。是次講座，研究組學者將會與大家分享影像解剖技術原理及透過其應用所得的數據📊，協助大眾了解如何制定長遠的海洋動物保育政策，保護生態系統，達至「海洋健康一體化」🌊。講座將以廣東話，輔以英語進行。

As part of the Hong Kong Maritime Week (HKMW) 2024, the Hong Kong Maritime Museum (HKMM) will present a family fun day with free admission on 23 November 2024. There will be free admission and a series of educational activities, including a “Story of the Ocean Giants: Health Assessment of Aquatic Animals” Talk🎤. Apart from fishers, shipping🚢 and port operators, aquatic animals🐟 are also important key stakeholders of the ocean. We should be aware, care and behave better towards these aquatic animals.

Aquatic Animal Virtopsy Lab (AAVL) from City University of Hong Kong has applied a cutting-edge ''virtopsy'' technique💻 on local Cetacean Stranding Investigation📝 since 2014, that was later extended to the research on sea turtles🐢 from 2019 onwards. Audiences will learn about this stage-of-the-art technique and its application on building a unique centralised database📊 and long-term strategies for conservation of aquatic animals. Such a complete ecosystem indicator may eventually support the conservation and policy decision for all oceans, leading to a "One Ocean-One Health"🌊 paradigm. The talk will be conducted in Cantonese, supplemented by English.
