Hong Kong's Harbourfront: Seeing Through the Shadow

23 May 2015 16:00
Peter Cookson Smith, Architect, Planner, Urban Designer and Member of the Harbourfront Commission (in English)

Almost half of Victoria Harbour has been reclaimed at various stages over the past 100 years. In 1999 the Town Planning Board published a vision for the harbour ‘to make it vibrant, accessible and symbolic of the city – a harbour for the people and a harbour of life’. But 15 years later there is little to show for this. In this talk Peter identifies some of the problems but also the design opportunities that we must examine if the city is going to match the objectives that have been set and the waterfront initiatives of other world cities.
