Maritime Awareness Week 2016

Maritime Awareness Week 2016

A careers-orientated event jointly organised by

Hong Kong Shipowners Association and Hong Kong Maritime Museum

Hong Kong Maritime Museum (HKMM) is jointly holding a careers orientated event entitled Maritime Awareness Week 2016 from 12th to 18th November 2016 with the Hong Kong Shipowners Association (HKSOA) and supported by other companies and organisations in Hong Kong’s maritime industry.

In 2013, both HKSOA and HKMM launched an initiative to raise awareness of and generate interest in maritime careers in Hong Kong. It is estimated that more than 90% of global trade is carried by sea in a very cost effective and environment friendly way, without shipping, the modern world would effectively cease to function. Due to the international and the silent dedication nature of the industry, the public is not well aware of the historic and contemporary importance of the maritime community to Hong Kong and its contribution to the economy in Hong Kong as a vibrant international maritime centre.

Please come along with your friends and family to find out more about Hong Kong’s vibrant shipping industry, get a first hand feeling of the modern ships, speak to professionals about the exciting career opportunities in the maritime industries and find out how changes in modern shipping are affecting you!

Activities during Maritime Awareness Week 2016 will include visits to a boat, maritime information stands, shipbuilding development history exhibition, modern ship demonstration stand, bridge simulators, presentations from industry professionals, careers advice and, of course, the chance to explore and experience the Hong Kong Maritime Museum.

The Hong Kong Maritime MuseumandHong Kong Shipowners Association are collaborating to present an array of educational activities throughout the week:

  • Ambassador’s scheme – in collaboration with Education Bureau (EDB)
  • Professional talks for students, parents and teachers (and public)
  • STEM workshops
