Exclusive Privileges to HKMM Visitors on International Museum Day, Hong Kong on 14 and 15 May 2016

Celebrating the annual International Museum Day (IMD) designated by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), the Hong Kong Maritime Museum (HKMM) offers exclusive privileges to visitors on IMD days from 14 to 15 May 2016 (opening hours from 10:00 to 19:00) including:-

Free giveaway on any purchase over HK$100 at HKMM Gift Shop
Café 8
10% discount on any consumption at Café 8, the Museum’s roof-top café run by a social enterprise Nesbitt Centre.
 
What’s more, HKMM will open the entire museum to the public for free alongside our brand new installation KM Koo Ship Bridge simulator. Visitors can also ‘sail’ across the past, present and future of the Hong Kong’s maritime history and heritage through our 13 themed permanent galleries spanning three decks at Central Pier 8.
 
A variety of programmes and activities are offered for visitors to join for free.
 
1. KM KOO SHIP BRIDGE SIMULATOR
What are the challenges of piloting and navigating modern, ocean-going vessels? Visit our new, exciting simulator to find out how to steer a ship into the Port of Hong Kong and learn about the roles of different seafarers on board a ship. 
 
Admission to this activity is by free ticket. Tickets for all sessions will be available from 1pm, first come first served.

2. GUIDED TOURS: AROUND THE MUSEUM IN 45 MINUTES 
Joins our tours on IMD day! You can find out about the fascinating maritime history of Hong Kong and see the whole museum in 45 minutes.

3. THEMED TOUR: SEA BANDITS IN THE SOUTH CHINA SEA
In collaboration with the Society of Hong Kong History
Join our tour to learn more about sea bandits in South China Sea. The pirate Zhang Baozai operated six fleets in the South China Sea with over 70,000 followers in the early 19th century and was the major threat for the European merchants and the Ching government. In this talk, Dr. Leo Sze will talk about the rise and fall of Zhang Baozai's sea bandits fleet and the interesting stories about him and his wife, Cheng I Sao.

4. STORYTELLING 
Out education staff will share with you stories about growing up in Hong Kong and maritime story. Each story contains a valuable lesson.

5. SHRINK PLASTIC WORKSHOP
You can now bring the beautiful images of an object home as a keyring. Join this workshop to take your favourite piece of objects home!

6. MAKE A MASK WORKSHOP
Explore with our mascot Jake the diver in this unique workshop. Make a diving mask and create your own underwater scene with local artist Sharon Cheung and her team.
 
Admission to this activity is by free ticket, tickets for each session will be available 30 minutes before the session launches, and places are limited.

7. CAFÉ 8 GIG
What’s better than an afternoon of city-themed international flavoured music against the hustle and bustle of this metropolis?
 
Come join us at Café 8, the casual yet stylish eatery on top of the Hong Kong Maritime Museum. With a talented cast of professional musicians (tenor David Quah, bassist Lui Ngao-yuen, guitarist Joseph Chiu and saxophonist Siu Hin-chuen), Jazztriom with David Quah brings popular classics for you to enjoy on a leisure Sunday.
